Parenting

You may have more questions than answers about parenting or maybe the thought of becoming a parent seems impossible to you at this time. We’ve talked to hundreds of clients who are concerned about things like:

  • My husband or boyfriend doesn’t want the baby, but I do.
  • For men: My girlfriend doesn’t want the baby, but I do.
  • I can’t tell my family.
  • How will I finish school?
  • How will I continue working?
  • Where will I live?
  • I don’t have medical insurance.
  • I can’t afford a child.
  • I’m too young.
  • This is too hard to do alone.
We can talk about all these issues with you so you can decide if parenting is right for you.

Parenting Information

Each situation is unique. At Options for Women, our role is to provide you with the resources and tools to make the best choices for you and your child, and especially to bring hope for your future. In short, we want to see all of our clients who make this choice become the best parents they can be.

Options for Women believes strongly in educating and equipping our clients who have decided to carry their pregnancy to term. Part of our ongoing support is our Earn While You Learn/Bright Course programs, which are offered at no charge to our clients. Participants who attend our classes earn “Baby Bucks” and can shop at our Baby Boutique for things such as maternity and baby clothing, diapers, supplies, and larger items like strollers, cribs, etc. Classes include:

1. Healthy Pregnancy

Options for Women is committed to helping you have a healthy pregnancy. Our pregnancy program covers valuable topics such as eating for two, your developing baby, emotions of pregnancy, your changing body, getting ready for baby, labor and delivery, and more.

2. Parenting Skills

You may have questions about how to be a good parent and raise a healthy, happy child. As part of our ongoing support, our parenting skills program includes helpful lessons on breastfeeding, infant care and nutrition, sleep and crying, potty training and more.

3. Practical Fatherhood

Fathers coming into our center need simple and practical advice on how to be the dad that their children need. Our Practical Fatherhood series is designed to meet this need. It addresses the real and pressing needs that a father can experience. The topics covered range from discipline to role-modeling to spending time with the family. Separately, we also have a “Path to Manhood” program that can pair with a man who has been through some of the things you may experience as a father. You too have options.

4. Life Skills

Beyond parenting, Options for Women offers important life skills classes with topics ranging from money management, debt and budgeting, interviewing for a job, home management, and even (is there a better way to phrase this?) .

The programs listed above are part of the “Earn While You Learn/Bright Course” Prenatal and Parenting Program
